The Italian version of Pinot Noir

Nebbiolo Nuovo - 2015 Gundagai NSW

Nebbiolo is the Variety of the Great Wines of the Barolo Region of Italy. This area is a bit like Burgundy in France in that they fancy themselves as the pre eminent region in the whole world for red wine production.

It is hard to argue with them when you taste a ten year old Barolo. Like all the great varieties from around the world we Aussies like to have a go in our own way.

This wine has had the best chance to get there being made by a young Aussie winemaker from the Birks Family. Peter also has the great advantage of living in Barolo and making wine there in the Northern Hemisphere Vintage. He was given a free hand to make this wine with great results.

Look for the varietal hallmark tar and roses on the nose and palate with the chewy tannins to balance it. This wine comes alive with food - try it with some good bread, olive oil and cheese.
