Pinot Gris - 2017 Yarra Valley VIC
Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are made from the same grape variety, just in different styles. Grigio is the Italian version, generally picked early with a bright acidity and crisp, zingy fruit. The French style, Gris, is riper and fuller, characterised more by its volume than its acidity.
Ours is in the Gris category, with big primary fruit flavours of pear and apple, fresh acidity and a round, soft finish. It suits most white meats and vego meals. It will enhance flavours rather than compete with them.
Made for us in the Yarra Valley, this will develop nicely for a couple of years but is great drinking now. Move on from Sauvignon Blanc and try this with its much more food friendly style.
