The Italian version of Pinot Noir

Nebbiolo - 2018 Mansfield, Victoria

Nebbiolo is the Variety of the Great Wines of the Barolo Region of Italy. This area is a bit like Burgundy in France in that they fancy themselves as the pre eminent region in the whole world for red wine production. It is hard to argue with them when you taste a ten year old Barolo.

Like all the great varieties from around the world we Aussies like to have a go in our own way. This wine has the best chance to get there being made by a Nebbiolo enthusiast winemaker Ros Richie of Delatite Fame. Ros now has here own label and makes some seriously good wines in the Mansfield region.

This is not a big full bodied wine that needs 10 years to soften down to be drinkable. Look for the varietal hallmark Tar and Roses on the nose and palate with the chewy tannins to balance it. Food is a must so have it with good bread, olive oil and cheese.
