Tempranillo is the backbone of Spain’s red table wine industry. Much like Shiraz in Australia, it’s a versatile variety that ranges from light, affordable reds to Spain’s most celebrated Riojas—comparable to our own Grange.

Australian winemakers are increasingly drawn to Tempranillo for its ability to retain strong fruit character and structure in warm climates. It performs exceptionally well in warmer regions like those along the Murray in our irrigation areas, where traditional Aussie varieties often struggle with hardness and a lack of fruit. Tempranillo, by contrast, maintains a pleasant fruitiness and gentle, low acidity.
Still young and bursting with red fruit, it’s delightfully juicy with a vibrant nose of strawberries and yoghurt. With a touch of carbonic character, it pairs perfectly with grilled meats or Mexican dishes.
